Obituary for Ruth Elizabeth Sibley

Ruth Elizabeth Sibley
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Sibley died peacefully in New Castle, PA on August 25, 2018 at the age of 73. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Gary Sibley of Ocala, FL. Ruth and Gary have been staying with their daughter, Susan Rodgers of New Castle, PA, for the past year during Ruth’s extended illness. In addition to Susan, Ruth is survived by her daughters,Diane Sibley, Linda Jones and Rebecca Plyler. Ruth also is survived by her sister, Toni Ruth of Texas, and a brother, Michael Phillips of Franklin, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents and five of her siblings.

Ruth was born on September 17, 1944 in Franklin, PA to Jack and Dora Phillips.

Ruth graduated from Rocky Grove High School. Gifted with a photographic memory, she turned down a job at the Pentagon to marry her high school sweetheart Gary on August 22, 1962. They just celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary. She put her talents to work as a medical transcriptionist, retiring from Franklin Regional Medical Center. She continued to display her talents by acting as reigning champion of endless Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble games. She was known for her dry wit and her compassion for others.

Per her wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral services. A memorial service and celebration is being planned for a later date.

Her peaceful passing was due in large part to the wonderful care and support of AHN Healthcare at Home. The Lawrence Hospice Team made it possible for her to remain at home surrounded by her friends and family, especially her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s memory to Allegheny Health Network HealthcareatHome. Simply go to the website ahn.org, scroll down, and click on Hospice Donations.
