Michael A. Nard, 100, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of June 15, 2018 at Jameson Hospital.

Born in New Castle on December 24, 1917, Michael was the son of the late John and Mary Lastoria Nard. Preceding him in death on November 9, 2013 is his wife, the former Lucy P. Rico, whom he married on June 14, 1940.

Michael was a member of St. Vitus Church. He retired from Shenango China where he worked as a foreman for forty six years and served as trustee for the AFL-CIO.

Michael was an accomplished musician, playing the violin, saxophone and the drums. He also was the leader of Mike’s Music Makers. He taught music at the Music Showcase and was the business agent of the musician’s union. Michael enjoyed gardening and wine making.

He is survived by his children, Bonnie L. Nard and John A. Nard and his wife LeeAnne, both of New Castle, his two grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Nard-Mitchell and her husband Ryan; Erin Laprade and her husband Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, Lucie Laprade and Brady Mitchell.

In addition to his parents and wife, Michael was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Nard, Hilda Nard and Annetta DeVincentis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00AM at St. Vitus Church conducted by Rev. Father Zachary Galiyas.

Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
