Elizabeth (Betty) Yargo of Betty’s Bridal went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Jameson Care Center. She was 89. She was born April 14, 1928 in Beaver, PA, a daughter of Carmen and Genevieve (DiNello) DeSalle.

She met the love of her life in 1950 and married Sullivan Frank Yargo on July 12, 1952. Sullivan was a WWII veteran, and they shared 34 years of marriage and many happy memories before he went to be with the Lord. They built a loving home and had two daughters, Beth and Karen. They served God together, opening their home often to missionaries and ministers. It was always a welcome place for everyone. They were available to anyone in need of help and were known for their charity and kindness. They worked closely together until his passing.

Elizabeth, known by many as Betty, was the owner and creator of Betty’s Bridal Shoppe. She began the bridal business in her basement in 1964 at the age of 36, where she was best known for creating one-of-a-kind original wedding gowns, to the specifications of the bride. Several years later, she moved her business to Wilmington Road. She turned down offers to design bridal gowns for Alfred Angelo of New York and other famous designers and chose instead to remain in New Castle, where she provided for the brides in the area. She also had many out of town brides because of her unique skills and the personal care she provided. Over the years, she created many original wedding dresses.

She often managed fashion shows as fundraisers in the area. During her final days, many of her brides stopped in to see her and reminisce about the gowns she made for them. She enjoyed looking through their photos and loved spending time with them.

Throughout her life, Betty was active in church. She served as a choir member, a Sunday School Teacher, a Children’s Church Director, a Summer Bible School Teacher, the head of pastoral visiting for the sick, and later, a secretary/bookkeeper for Caleb International Ministries.

She always had an encouraging word for everyone. She loved people, and throughout her life counseled many. She was a great listener with words of wisdom from years of learning and a tender heart. She was dearly loved by many and was affectionately call “mom” by those who became part of her life. Her home was always an open door to everyone. Later in her life, she moved into Jameson Place Assisted Living, where she always enjoyed making new friends. You could find her playing her favorite hymns on the piano there, reading her Bible, or knitting something. She shared her faith in God wherever she went, but most of all, lived it out in the kindness and love she showed.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Beth Lynn (Jeff) Bakuhn of New Castle, PA and Karen Jean (David) Crowe of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Ryan David (Megan) Crowe of Wilmington, NC, Joshua Andrew Bakuhn of Cranberry, PA, and Danielle Nicole (Steven) Milley of Quincy, MA; and two brothers, David DeSalle of Fort Loudon, PA and Ronald DeSalle of Beaver Falls, PA.

In addition to her beloved husband, Sullivan, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: William and Anthony, and two sisters: Loretta DeSalle and Janice Seletas.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by her pastor, Reverend Louis LaGatta.

Entombment will take place in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
