Obituary for William G. Zbegan

William G.  Zbegan
William G. Zbegan, 80, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of February 20, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on December 23, 1936 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Joseph Leon and Mary Christina Yoho Zbegan. Surviving at home is his wife of 54 years, the former Betty M. Lample, whom he married on April 14, 1962.

Bill was a State Farm insurance agent for more than 40 years in New Castle, where he owned his own agency. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bill graduated and served as the Class President for the Class of 1954 for Shenango High School. He later earned a Bachelors Degree from Perdue University. Bill was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He had been involved with the Junior Achievement Organization and was a former member of Rotary International. He also was a former member of the American Red Cross Board and an active volunteer for the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County. An avid golfer, Bill had his own golf league at Castle Hills.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by his beloved daughter, Amy Suzanne Zbegan at home, niece, Stephanie Smeltz-Spark and husband Kevin Spark, nephew, David Michael Smeltz and wife Tracy, great-nieces, Kirsten Mae Spark and Megan Elizabeth Spark, great-nephew, Alexander Donald Spark, and his dog, Baby, as well as many good friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Zbegan Smeltz, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Alice Lample.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00am at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Andrew Jillson.

Interment will take place in Mountville UP Cemetery.
