Dear Father Nick:
Please accept my deepest sympathy upon the passing away of your uncle, Father Joe Mastrangelo. While I never had the pleasure of meeting your uncle in person, I remember my parents, Alfred and Michelina Retort, speaking of him as Father Joe was the priest who celebrated my parent's wedding mass in September 1953 at St. Lawrence Church in Hillsville, PA.

When I told my Mom the news of your uncle's passing away she asked me to express her condolences to you also. My Dad passed away one month ago on Christmas Day and so I can empathize with you over the passing away of a loved one. I know too that Father Joe held a special place in his life for my religious sisters, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, whom he knew from his younger days of growing up in New Castle.

Please know of my prayers for the repose of Father Joe's soul and for the comfort and consolation of you and your family. May the many prayers for all of you give you strength and peace at this time.
God bless,
Sr. Lisa Ann Retort, ASCJ

Condolence: I was a young girl when Fr.Joseph came to Reginia Coeli Church. I was in second Grade then. It was a very small school. The chruch was connected to the school. I can remember how every one loved and cared for Fr. joseph. I just want to say to his family, I'am a better person for his under standing of catholic teaching's. God bless him for the journey of being the loved and caring priest, that he was. May the gates of heaven open to you with the spirit of the faithful that you served so well during, the jorney you had on earth. God bless you on your journey in heaven.

Condolence: To Father Joe's family, my deepest sympathies. Father Joe and my family go back to the 1960's when I was raising my children. We spent an evening that I remember in my parents home having dinner and conversation. My son was just a baby and Father held him and blessed him. My son thanked him by promptly throwing up on him. Father extended his hankie, which I had for many years and we all had a good laugh.

I will never forget you Father, please pray for me and my family as I know you are up there at the right hand of God. Say hi to Ike for me and tell him I love him and miss him very much.

With Love,

Jeannine

To those who knew him, his memory will remain in the hearts of many and his prayers, a sacrifice of praise to God, Our Father!

Condolence: Father Joe was a magnificent priest -- a wonderful preacher, a gentle and loving pastor. Along with his beloved sister, Lena, he served the faithful of the Diocese of Pittsburgh for many, many years. I was privileged to be his organist at Regina Coeli almost fifty years ago. He and Lena became a part of our family and a dear and treasured friend through all the years that followed his assignment in our parish. He will be missed, but he is in heaven with the rest of his family -- how glorious must that reunion have been! God rest you, dear Father Joe! You were greatly loved.

Condolence: I was born & raised in the West End and attended St. James School & Church in the early 60's. Fr. Mastrangelo was the pastor at the time and the first priest I ever knew. I remember him to be a very gentle sweet man. He took the time to get to know the students attending. I have thought of him over the years and have mentioned here and there that I have nothing but wonderful memories as a young girl having Fr Mastrangelo to look up to. I became a Presbyterian in 1988 but I will never forget Fr Mastrangelo who was an important mentor growing up of the Catholic faith! He was truly an angel of God!!!
