Obituary for Marie E. Naples (Veronesi)

Marie E. Naples (Veronesi)
Marie E. Naples, 83, formerly of Union Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 12, 2012, at Rhodes Estates.

Marie was born in Seminole, PA on March 1, 1928, the youngest of eight children, to Cesare and Erminia Sega Gaione-Veronesi. A 1945 graduate of Union High School, she married Sam M. Naples on October 1, 1949, and together they raised six children until Mr. Naples' death on April 12, 2004.

Always active in her community, Marie was a Boy Scout den mother, Little League team mother, school volunteer, and supporter of her children and grandchildren's many academic and sporting events. She served on the Lawrence County Board of Elections and was past president of the Oakwood Garden Club.

Marie attended Mary Mother of Hope Parish where she belonged to the Ladies Guild and volunteered at the annual Easterfest where she baked and sold pies and learned to make pierogi.

Those who knew and loved her will never forget her pizza, ravioli, apple pie, and beautiful flower gardens. She was an excellent seamstress and, in the early days, made most of her children's clothing, as well as dance costumes for her daughter's recitals. Above all, Marie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her greatest joy being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by her five surviving children, Joan (Robert) Bott, Andrew (Cindy) Naples, and Michelle Myers of New Castle, Amy (Paul) Hoyt of Cranberry Township, PA, Sam Naples of Cabot, PA, and daughter-in-law, Libbie Naples of Ridgeland, Mississippi. A son, Michael S. Naples, preceded her in death on September 25, 2011. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Jill Esenwein, Lesley Frengel, Adam and Samantha Naples, Janelle Cassano, Travis Myers, Jamie Naples-Bobbit, Kelley Naples, Kait and Lauren Hoyt, and Ryan and Zack Naples, and six great-grandchildren. A grandson, Lee M. Myers, passed away on January 26, 2009.

In addition to her husband, son, and grandson, Marie was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, James Gaione, Katherine (Rena) Williams, Alda Ryan, Nell Colaluca, Emma Fedrizzi, Aldo Veronesi, and Joe Veronesi.

Visitation is Wednesday, February 15, from 4-8 pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father James Downs at St. Mary's Church on Thursday at 11:00 am followed by burial at Parkside Cemetery. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am for church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
