Obituary for William B. Garda

William B. Garda, 76, of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was born in New Castle on July 15, 1946 to the late George and Flora (Paglia) Garda.

Bill graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964 and served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a machinist at Rockwell International and Standard Steel Specialties.

Bill was a member of the local VFW Post 315 and the American Legion Post 343. Bill was a member of St. Camillus Church.

He enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, watching his favorite game shows on television, bowling, and fishing at Lake Canadohta. He also shared his time and talents volunteering at the New Castle Playhouse over the last twenty years as a set builder. Bill was the original “Dance Dad” always supporting and encouraging his daughters’ artistic pursuits. His most cherished moments were most definitely spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty two years, the former Nancy Beikert of New Castle; two daughters, Julia Cavalier (Michael) of Ellwood City and Jennifer Moore (Richard) of Queens, two grandchildren, Ava and Flynn Moore; a brother, George Garda (Renee) of Adams Township, brothers and sisters-in-law, James Beikert (Joyce), John Beikert, Charles Beikert (Marsha), Vivian Beikert and Karen Beikert; nieces and nephews, Lisa Palaski (Mark), Charles Beikert (Brandi), Kevin Beikert and Brenda Beikert (Dylan).

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd.

The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 9:15a.m. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30a.m. for St. Camillus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. officiated by Father Joseph McCaffrey, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish. .

Entombment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made in William’s name and mailed to the New Castle Area Honor Guard or the New Castle Area Playhouse.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the SICU at UPMC Passavant Hospital, as well as the support team of Family Hospice for their compassion and care.
