W. James Mardis, 82 of New Castle passed away the morning of April 13, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born on January 17, 1938 in New Castle, Jim was the son of the late Luther S. and Claribelle Flynn Mardis. On January 30, 1965 he married his devoted wife of over fifty five years, the former Lana J. Jackson. She survives and resides at home.

Jim was of Protestant faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had worked as a contractor. Jim was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Club Lodge 51 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 455. Jim enjoyed fishing, boating and was active in wildlife preservation.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived and was so very proud of his five daughters, Dianne Mattera (Phil Koon) of Saegertown, PA, Shana Cook (David) of New Castle, Deanna Harvley (Ron) of Port Orange, FL, Renee Rayl (Craig) of Derby, KS, Sherrie Mardis (Brent Germanski) of Murrells Inlet S.C.; his sister, Barbara Schneider of Monroeville, Pa. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Dan Jesse, Teresa Jesse, Courtney Kearns, Alan Cook, Tony Masone, Mandy Clause, Tyler Masone, Joe Rayl and Sam Rayl. He was also loved and will be remembered by seven great grandchildren. Dad’s obituary would not be complete without mentioning his faithful furry friend Jax. We will take good care of him for you Dad!

In honoring Jim’s wishes, there are no calling hours and services are private.

The family wishes to offer their deepest appreciation to Dr. Sylvia Coleman of New Castle and a special thank you to Dad’s medical teams at Allegheny General Hospital. Their love, kindness and support will never be forgotten.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jim to the animal shelter of your choice.

I Just know that Jim was an awesome father which I’m sure y’all already knew that. Wish I could be there to give y’all each a hug, but maybe next time I’m back in New Castle, we can. Again, so sorry for your loss

Lana, Shana, Sherrie, Dianne and the family members that I haven't met: So saddened to hear this. There is so little one can say or do at such a sad and difficult time like this but I want you to know that Jim and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sending my deepest, heartfelt sympathy to all of you. With Love and Prayers, Rosemary McIltrot

This is such a shock. My deepest sympathy go out to Jim's family. Not more than a month ago l returned Jax because he was wondering out on the road.Jim and l spoke that afternoon in his garbage for well over an hour.We hadn't seen each other for years, but it was just like we saw each other everydayAlthoughl did not know his wife or daughters, who he boasted of proudly. He was a good neighbor and friend. He will be sadly missed. He, and all of his family will be in my prayers.
