Obituary for Virginia Rose "Ginny" Stanley (Olma)
Virginia “Ginny” Rose Stanley, 92 of Beckford St., New Castle, PA passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on Sunday, May 12, 2019 with family members by her side.
Virginia was born in Buffalo, NY on August 25, 1926, the daughter of William “Blaise” and Regina “Virginia” Olma.
She grew up in Buffalo with her two younger siblings, Richard “Dick” Olma and Rosemarie Barron. In young adulthood she had dreams of becoming a nurse, but being too young to enroll in the nursing program offered after WWII, Virginia then obtained her LPN while caring for her family and driving to Youngstown, Ohio every day, 60 years ago. She graduated with top honors and took great pride in caring for patients for 30 years at Saint Francis Hospital, later becoming a Senior Respiratory Therapist. Nursing was her passion and despite her busy schedule, she loved being part of a team that provided for people.
She was a working wife, widowed by her late husband, Arthur L. Stanley, a WWII veteran. Together they built a great life for themselves in New Castle and spent 70 years in the same home on a street with the most wonderful neighbors. They lived a life full of family gatherings, dinners, parties, reunions and cross-country travels with the Army Air Corps Repair Squadron.
Virginia was also a lifelong member of St. Joseph the Worker Church.
Her greatest accomplishment, however, was raising their three children, her beloved daughter, Cheryl Ann Stanley who preceded her in death, Richard A. Stanley of Brigantine, NJ and Cynthia “Cindy” Ferro of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. She was a faithful and supporting mother and grandmother. In her later life, she enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren, Cassandra (Joseph), Eric (Kristy), and Dr. Nicole “Tasha” Ferro, and great-granddaughter Cayley. Her favorite summers were ones spent at the lake home that she and Art purchased and renovated for their family at Canadohta Lake. So many invaluable memories were made there with family from all over, thanks to Virginia. She was also a talented crafter and seamstress. One of her favorite hobbies was meeting with her friends at the Quilters Guild, especially her incredible nieces, Helen Wilson and Patty Colucci, where she created gorgeous accent blankets. She gifted and sold beautiful memorabilia at numerous local craft fairs. In her final years she still managed to be the center of attention, scooting around town to the movies, parks, senior center, and lunch spots with her companion, and primary caregiver, Annie Miti. Virginia will always be remembered for all of the time, passion, and love that went into everything she did in life. She is very loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Friday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.
A service will be conducted on Saturday at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Deacon John Carran will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
