Obituary for Verna B. Tanner

Verna B. Majeski Tanner 87 of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of March 23, 2019 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.

Born February 10, 1932 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late George Majeski and Anne Blaszczak Majeski. Verna was a graduate of Shenango High School. She was married to William G. Tanner Sr. on June 2, 1951 and were married for 67 years, when he proceeded her in death on July 18, 2018.

Verna was very kind and generous, always giving a helping hand to anyone in need. Prior to raising her family, she was employed at Bell Telephone and later in life she worked at Wasilewski’s Market. She was very active at both St. Michael’s and later St. Vincent DePaul Parish as a lector, a member of the Ladies Guild, rosary society, card parties and nut roll baking. She enjoyed family and friends but she found her greatest joy attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities in any conditions.

She is survived by her children, Charlene A. Tanner, William G. Tanner, Jr. and wife Kimberly, Patti Morici and husband Matthew, Brian Tanner and wife Debbie, all of New Castle; seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters, Infant William Majeski, William Majeski, Roman Majeski, John Majeski, Stanley Majeski, Mary Witherspoon, Sophie Isabella, Helen DelPrincipe, and Frances Memo.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 for St. Vincent de Paul Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am officiated by Rev. Father William Siple.

Burial will take place at St. Philip and James Cemetery.

The family asks that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice in her name which will continue her legacy of giving.
