Obituary for Shirley Preston (O'Shea)

Shirley O’Shea Preston, 92, of Neshannock Township passed away the afternoon of August 8, 2021 at her residence.

Shirley was born in Buffalo, NY on July 5, 1929 to the late William and Margaret O’Shea.

She graduated from high school in Buffalo, NY before moving to New Castle in 1949.

Shirley married the late Robert Preston, Jr. in 1951. He preceded her in death after sixty-six years of marriage on April 17, 2017.

Shirley grew up as a depression era child and always had an appreciation for and enjoyment of life’s blessings. She lived life to the fullest. Shirley loved travel, golf, skiing, biking and bridge. She loved to walk at Pearson Park and could be seen marching around the park well into her 80’s. Her boys will miss her passion for life and her unwavering support. Her spirit will live on within everyone in the family. One of Shirley’s most rewarding experiences was working with the Y-Teens in the 1970’s. Having had all sons, Shirley thought of those girls as daughters and loved working with them.

Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for over seventy years and loved to attend Mass.

Shirley is survived by her five sons, Jack Preston (Martha) of Houston, TX, Robert Preston, III (Joann) of New Castle, Patrick Preston (Diane) of Newbury, OH, David Preston (Mary Kay) of New Castle and William Preston (Kristen) of New Wilmington, her brother, Bob O’Shea, fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, William O’Shea and John O’Shea.

Honoring her wishes there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary’s Church at 11:00 a.m. Father Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor will officiate.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
