Obituary for Madeline (Lena) Donofrio

The Lord called Madeline (Lena) Donofrio to her final resting place on December 2, 2018.

She was born in Hillsville, Pa on March 11, 1920 to her loving parents, Joseph and Rose Micco Donofrio. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, two brothers, Charles Donofrio, Gabriel Donofrio and his sons, Gabe, Jr and Mark, his daughters, Cristina and Constance; and her sister, Marie Swanson.

Madeline graduated from Bessemer High School in 1938 and from New Castle Business College in 1939. She was employed by Peoples Realty Company for forty five years. She was a licensed insurance and real estate agent. Madeline was corresponding secretary for the New Castle Girl Scouts during Mrs. Forsythe’s tenure. She was also a former member and officer of New Castle Business and Professional Women’s Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, travelled extensively, was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, scrabble and cross word puzzles. She also loved animals.

Madeline leaves behind her dear sister-in-law, Vilma Donofrio, loving nephews and niece and their spouses; Charles R. Donofrio, Archie J. Donofrio, Timothy Donofrio, Dennis Swanson, Robert P. Swanson, Deborah Clark and several great nieces and great nephews.

She was a member of Christ the King Parish.

Visitation is Wednesday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. followed by a Blessing Service to be held at the funeral home at 1:15PM conducted by Deacon John Carran.

Burial will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers any contributions in Madeline’s memory may be mailed to the Lawrence County Humane Society P.O. Box 62, New Castle, PA 16103.

The family would like to thank the Allegheny Hospice and her private caretakers who cared for her over the last year.
