Obituary

Judith Kathleen Augustine Spinosa, 84, of Edinburg, Pa. passed away the morning of November 16, 2020.

Born on December 23, 1935 in Hillsville, Judith was the daughter of the late Nick and Josephine DeMase Augustine. Judy is survived by her husband, Nicholas R. Spinosa, whom she married on January 21, 1956 and with whom she enjoyed and shared sixty four wonderful years of marriage.

Judy was a graduate of Bessemer High School, now Mohawk ASD, class of 1954. While in high school she was the Class President all four years. Her class was the only one to do a trip to both Washington D.C. and New York City. Judy was also instrumental in originating an amateur show which still continues to this date.

Judy was a member of the former St. Lawrence Church and the current Christ the King Parish/Holy Spirit Parish, where she served as a CCD teacher and helped Fr. Luteri with the church bulletin for many years. While serving as CCD teacher she helped in originating a children’s mass where the children participated as lectors, ushers and bringing the gifts. She also started a Christmas play that continues to this date.

As a child, Judy loved books and was an avid reader. During her lifetime, she assembled a large library including many of the classics. Judy also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Judy cherished the times spent with her family, the love and hugs they shared, and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, Judy is survived by a son, Brian of Edinburg, a daughter, Pamela of Mount Vernon, OH, and grandchildren, Johnathan Curran and Kelly Curran; a daughter, Susan of New Castle and grandchildren, Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Katherine and Susan.

Visitation is Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. followed by a Blessing Service at 7:00PM conducted by Seminarian Merv E. Knieriem of Holy Spirit Parish.

Due to Covid-19, the six foot rule will be honored and all guests are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Burial will take place at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

My condolences to all of the Spinosa family. Susan and I were the best of friends back in the day, and I spent many hours in they’re house. I remember that Mrs.Spinosa was a fabulous cook, and enjoyed many dinners. I know she will be missed dearly.

Sorry for your loss, Melissa (Leeper) Ward
