Obituary for John B. Verterano

John B. Verterano, 78, of Bessemer, PA passed away the evening of June 26, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Born on November 24, 1943 in Hillsville, PA John was the son of the late Salvatore and Teresa Tutino Verterano.

On February 14, 1970, John married his beloved wife, the former Sheryl Kaylor. She survives at home.

John had worked as a conductor/brakeman for Penn Central/Con Rail and Norfolk Southern Railroad. He retired in 2006 after forty years of service.

John had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

He was a member of New Life Church in Poland, Ohio.

John enjoyed being in the outdoors. Hunting, going to the mountains and traveling to the beach with family. He was also a former member of the Rod and Gun Club and Fox and Coon Club.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Alexis Quinones (Luis) of Poland, OH, his brother, Frank Verterano (Beth) of New Wilmington, and two sisters, Angie Edel of Hillsville and Josie Baskeyfield of New Castle and three grandchildren, Alexandria, Felicita and Teresa.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam and James Verterano and one sister, Antonette Baranski.

Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.

The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Full Military Rites at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dave Allman of New Life Church.

Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
