Obituary for Joanna M. DeCesare

Joanna M. DeCesare, 80, of Union Township passed away the evening of January 22, 2021 at the Haven Convalescent Home.

Born in New Castle on June 28, 1940, Joanna was the daughter of the late William J., Sr. and Antoinette M. Isabella Bullano. Preceding her in death on December 18, 2016 was her loving husband of over fifty three years, Frank A. DeCesare, whom she married on September 15, 1962.

Joanna was a lifetime devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. In earlier years she was a member of the Sodality organization, which was devoted to St. Theresa. She was very involved with the Ladies Guild of the Parish. She worked tirelessly at the annual St. Vitus Festival and was known as a “Puffette” for making their delicious pepperoni puffs.

She retired from Prudential Insurance where she had worked for over thirty five years as Senior Clerk. Joanna was a 1958 graduate of New Castle High School and was on the reunion committee for years. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Joanna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished all the times she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Gregory DeCesare and his spouse, Craig Conn of Pittsburgh, Francis DeCesare of New Castle; her brother, William Bullano, Jr and his wife Toni, of New Castle, her sisters, Mary S. “Merk” Bullano, Anna Marie Zumpella and her husband Thomas, both of New Castle; and her three grandchildren, Nicholas, Jack and Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00am at St. Vitus Church officiated by Fr. Pierre Sodini.

Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
