Obituary for James S. Butera

James S. Butera, 85 of Shenango Township passed away the morning of August 3, 2022 at Quality Life of New Castle.

Born on January 30, 1937 in New Castle, Jim was the son of the late James Nobel and Velma (Shoaff) Butera.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of forty-five years, the former Dolores “Dee” Wesoloski McKruit, who he married on April 23, 1977.

Jim had worked for Medusa Cement as a heavy equipment operator.

He had proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for twelve years.

As a lifelong resident of New Castle, Jim was a member of the New Castle Area Honor Guard, the American Legion, Post 343 and was past Commander of the Italian American War Vets. Jim was a constable for voting at the East New Castle Fire Station. For many years Jim belonged to the Shenango Volunteer Fire Department serving as Chief during the 1980’s. As a very outgoing person Jim enjoyed talking to everyone. A loving husband, father and grandfather Jim’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by one son, James S. Butera, Jr. (Stacy) of Hermitage, three daughters, DeAnna L. McMillen (Jeff) of New Castle, Shannon McKruit (Rich) of Tarentum, PA and Kellie Jo Gallagher (Jason) of Ellwood City, two sisters, Bonnie Schweinsburg, and Antoinette Mangino, seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by four sisters, Regina Butera in infancy, Mary Morrone, Donna O’Laughlin and Patti Regan.

Visitation will be on Friday 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Full Military Rites at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

A Blessing Service will follow on Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Nero will officiate.

Entombment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
