Obituary for Isabelle Bartley (Durso)

Isabelle Bartley, 93, of Union Township passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 1, 2020 at North Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center in Wexford, PA.

Born on November 26, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Carbone Durso.

On September 3, 1949 she married her beloved husband, William W. Bartley. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2015 after 66 wonderful years together.

Isabelle was a 1945 graduate of Rayen High School. She then attended Youngstown State University where she graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Math.

Always wanting to be involved with her children growing up, Isabelle served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. She was also involved with the Union Area Lions Club. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Isabelle's greatest joy was the quality time she spent with her family.

Also serving her community, Isabelle served as School Board Director of Union Area School District from 1965 to 1985. She worked as the board secretary and business manager for the Union School District for thirty years until she retired in 2009.

Spiritually, Isabelle was an active and devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. James the Apostle Site. She served as CCD Coordinator from 1969 to 1999. She was also a member of St. James Christian Women’s Association. She loved her church and served faithfully when needed.

Isabelle is survived by her children, Patricia Bartley Serotkin of Ebensburg, PA, Anthony W. Bartley and his wife Carol of Cranberry Township, PA, Christine Bartley Christian and her husband Matthew of Prunedale, CA, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Bartley of Holland Ml, her sister, Angie Durso of Pacific Grove, CA, four grandchildren, Ian Aughinbaugh, Matthew Bartley, Andrew Bartley (Allison), Katherine Catanese (Michael, Jr.) and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Isabelle was preceded in death by her loving son, John W. Bartley, her brother, Donald Durso and her son-in-law, Robert Serotkin.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 7th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.

Visitors are required to adhere to CDC guide lines regarding wearing face masks and practicing social distancing.

A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site at 10:30 a.m. Father Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish and a long - time friend, will officiate.

Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Parish CCD Program or to the Union Lions Club.
