Obituary for Geraldine R. Navarra (Retort)
Geraldine R. Navarra, 88, of Edinburg, Pa., passed away on January 23, 2021 at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born on September 27, 1932 in New Castle she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Carmalet Commisso Retort.
She married Robert F. Navarra on April 19, 1952. They enjoyed 56 beautiful years together until his passing on February 29, 2008.
Gerry started her career at age eighteen with the Lawrence County Board of Assistance. She rose through the ranks from receptionist to Personnel Director, retiring at age 53 after thirty-five years of service.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
Gerry was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers, but her first love was the Cleveland Indians. Her travels took her from coast to coast, from the largest cities to the smallest towns and she savored every minute. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her generosity with the finished products.
Gerry is survived by her daughter, Bobbi of Rocky River, Ohio, her brothers, Richard (Mary) Retort and Edmund Retort, all of Edinburg, and her sister-in-law, Pat Navarra Starzenski of Brookville, PA. She also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews and the many cherished friends that she collected throughout her life.
A Private Blessing Service will be held at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. Deacon John Carran will officiate. A Memorial Mass is being planned for later this year.
Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
