I remember picking vegetables from the garden with grandma. While she was prepping for lunch one day, grandpa asked me if I knew how to eat a tomato the right way. I laughed and sat down on the swing with him as he showed me how to enjoy a fresh picked tomato. Take a bite, sprinkle a little salt, take a bite, sprinkle a little salt. I never cared for tomatoes until that day. Then it became our thing. Sitting on the swing, eating our tomatoes together, listening to grandpa tell his life stories and battles. I will always remember those days. I will always remember you grandpa. Even though you are gone in a physical sense, you will live on in my heart and my memories. You will be missed.

I was saddened to hear about Uncle Emery’s passing. We are never ready to let go of the ones we love. I am very proud of my Uncle Emery and the man I knew. I thank him for his service to our country. Although I didn’t live near all the family growing up, I had the privilege of hearing many family stories through my mother, Mary, who was Uncle Emery’s only sister. She was the first of the siblings to pass and I picture her getting to show him heaven. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
