Obituary for Barbara A. Murphy
Barbara A. Murphy, 82, of New Castle passed away the evening of November 18, 2021 at her residence.
Born on May 17, 1939 in Hillsville, PA she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ernestine Brown Murphy.
In the early years Barbara worked as a Seamstress. She then worked for the Lawrence County Housing Authority. Later Barbara worked as a Pre-School Teacher for Lawrence County Head Start.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
Barbara was very involved with her community, she had organized and operated a Southside Community Center helping many local youths over the years. Barbara always enjoyed working with the children. She also enjoyed crocheting. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her children, Charles Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Georgia Marie Murphy, Richard Murphy, Trudi Murphy and Lea Murphy, her sister, Delores Bell, twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Edward Murphy.
Visitation will be on Tuesday 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Elder John Young, III of Bible Way Church of God in Christ will officiate.
Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
