Obituary for Dorothy D. Bongivengo (Dalton)

Dorothy D. Bongivengo, 81, of New Castle passed away the evening of October 23, 2019 at UPMC Jameson.

Born on July 8, 1938 in New Castle she was the daughter of the late Glen and Janet Simpson Dalton.

On August 2, 1958 Dorothy married her beloved husband, Peter R. Bongivengo. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2017.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary’s.

In the early years Dorothy had worked at Shenango China. She then worked for Radio Station WBZY as a Secretary before retiring after thirty years.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed painting, gardening, reading and baking. She was known for her “famous sugar cookies”. Dorothy had also served as a Girl Scout Leader.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Andrea Englehart and her husband David of Boalsburg, PA, Amy Bongivengo of New Castle, her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bongivengo of Big Canoe, GA, her brother, John Dalton and his wife Sandy of Sarasota, FL, three grandchildren, Michael Paul Amabile and his companion Ashlee, Samuel Englehart, Leah Englehart and one great-grandchild, Angelo Amabile.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Bongivengo Veltre, her son, Steven Bongivengo and her brother, Edward Dalton.

Honoring her wishes there are no calling hours. A private memorial mass will be held at a later date at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary’s Site. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
