Obituary for Peter J. Yerage

Peter J. Yerage, of New Castle passed away July 27, 2019 at North Hills UPMC Passavant Hospital.

He was born on August 28, 1943 in New Castle to the late Charles and Rose DiGennaro Yerage.

Peter had been a member of Holy Spirit Parish.

Peter was the owner of the Original Yerages at the Castle Arms and later The Original Yerages Main Street Café and spent many years catering weddings. He was a great chef and teacher who taught culinary art /restaurant trade, at the Lawrence County Vo-Tech where he touched many lives. His former students would continue to come back to see him even after graduation. Peter served on the New Castle School Board for many years where he always believed in “putting the kids first!” Peter was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Peter is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Miller, his daughters, Kristin Yerage of New Castle, Karrah Folk (Jonathan) of Castalia, OH, grandson, Kiptyn Cooper Folk, step-grandson, Kaden Folk, brothers, Lou Yerage of California, David Yerage of New Castle, a special friend and sister-in-law Marian Yerage and several nieces and nephews from PA, OH, TX, and CA.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Yerage.

Visitation will be on Tuesday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 South Mill St.

A Procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
