Obituary for Annie L. "Louise" Owens (Hicks)

Annie “Louise” Owens, age 90, formerly of New Castle passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Maple Crest Nursing Home in Struthers, Ohio. She was surrounded by her loving family, the caring staff and the hospice staff.

Louise was born in Oxford, North Carolina on April 30, 1929. She was the youngest of three children. She was the daughter of Waverly Hicks and Lessie Thrope Hicks.

Louise married Casper Cooper in 1946. He preceded her in death.

She married Cleveland Howell in 1952. Louise and Cle lived in New Castle for many years. They relocated to Buffalo, New York. Louise returned to New Castle to live after Cle’s death in 1972.

She later married Rayford Owens who also preceded her in death.

Louise was a homemaker. She worked at the luggage plant in Ellwood City. She worked as a part time cashier in Buffalo. She was a member of Second Baptist Church prior to moving to Buffalo. She was baptized at the Kingdom Hall in Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall in New Castle. She spent many years witnessing and pioneering in the community. She never met a stranger.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Barbara Owens of New Castle, a daughter Linda Ward and her fiance’ Tyrone Brown of Youngstown, Ohio, her son, Rev. Cleveland (First Lady Brenda) Howell of Buffalo, N.Y., nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and a host of great- great- grandchildren. She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, and a grandson, Louis Grayson Owens, Sr.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 25th, 10:30 to 11:00 at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Louise’s son, Rev. Cleveland P. Howell will officiate.

The family of Annie “Louise” Owens would like to extend their gratitude to Maple Crest Nursing Home in Struthers, Ohio and Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle for the care they provided. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Martha Miller for her love, care and attention to “Mother”.
