Obituary for Gladys J. Matthews (Ellis)
Gladys J. Matthews, 77, of New Castle passed away on the morning of March 30, 2019 at the Oasis.
Born on April 5, 1941 in New Castle she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Georgia Lee Ellis.
Gladys had worked at Jameson Hospital for over forty years. She was an active member of Prevailing World Word Outreach Center. Gladys enjoyed singing and was a member of the Reality Band. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and helping others.
Gladys is survived by her children, Thomas Matthews Jr. and his wife Amy, Elonzo Matthews Sr. and his wife Lynn all of New Castle, her grandson, Donte Wise of New Castle, whom she raised, two brothers, Herbert Ellis, Jr. of Florida, John Ellis of Arizona, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by two grandchildren, William Matthews, Sr. and Trey Matthews.
Visitation will be on Friday 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Prevailing World Word Outreach Center.
A Homegoing service will be conducted at the church on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Apostle David Young, Sr. will officiate.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
