Obituary for Margaret E. Delliquadri (Amabile)

Print
Margaret E. Delliquadri of Bleakley Avenue passed away the morning of October 27, 2018 at Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh PA after a short illness. She was 93 years old.

Born July 10, 1925 in New Castle PA to the late Pasquale and Maria (Vaturra) Amabile, Margaret was the last Amabile of the “greatest generation”.

She was an independent and energetic spirit from an early age. In her teens she worked various jobs, including performing labor in a factory. She trained to be a beautician and worked at Kenneth’s Beauty Salon and opened her own Beauty Shoppe in her home. Her clients ran the gamut from friends and relatives to the elite and prominent of New Castle. Even in her later years, she continued to serve loyal and dedicated customers.

She began raising her family after giving birth to daughter, Jordie, in her first marriage. She married Francis J. Delliquadri on September 24, 1959. They called each other “Bub”, and through their many years of marriage, Margaret and Francis were soulmates and best friends. The pair frequented supper and dance clubs where she was known for her fashionable appearance and lively and colorful style. She loved to dance and never missed an opportunity to do so.

A diminutive dynamo with many interests, she expressed her talents through creative endeavors that included sewing and designing her own clothing, needlework, crocheting, quilting, and other home crafts, as well as gardening and cooking. She was even featured in a New Castle News story about her inventive hobbies. She passed many of those skills onto Jordie, who also made her own clothing and continued her mother’s fashion-sense.

Never one to sit for long, Margaret lived life with gusto and spunk. She exercised daily by walking and bike riding, and often would be seen biking with her brothers, nieces, and nephews around New Castle. She also had a curious nature and liked keeping up with current events and learning new things, even into her 90s, and would engage in animated discussions with family and friends. She sometimes hosted family gatherings in which special baked chicken and homemade limoncello were on the menu. And always present was a good sweet, red wine, or brandy. Her philosophy was a good conversation should always include a good drink.

An active member of St. Vitus Church, she worked tirelessly for many years helping at the food bank. She also gave of her time by visiting friends and relatives who were ill or infirm. When she could no longer get out much, she kept in touch by phoning her friends and family, and many will miss her daily and weekly calls. She cared deeply for her nieces and nephews, but her greatest love and affection was for her two grandsons and her great-grandson. When she shared stories of their lives with family and friends, she beamed with pride and love.

She is survived by her grandson Lucas Book of Pittsburgh PA, and great-grandson, Rowan, and grandson David Book of Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, infant Francine, her husband, Francis J. Delliquadri, and her daughter, Jordie A. Book; and in addition to her parents, five brothers: Italy, Tony, Lawrence, Pasquale (Junior), and Carmen Amabile; and four sisters, Grace DiCaprio, Rose Amabile, Theresa Macri, and Gloria Stanfield.
