Ruth A. Zarella, 91, formerly of Union Township passed away the morning of October 9, 2018 at Jameson Care Center.
One of six children, Ruth was born in New Castle on July 30, 1927 to the late Anna and Stephen Schuster. Her father worked in the steel mill and her mother was a housewife who stayed at home raising Ruth and her 5 siblings.
The siblings include 4 brothers, Steve, Ed, Fred, and Bill and one sister, Elizabeth.
Ruth attended New Castle High School and married Paul Zarella.
She is survived by 4 children, Linda (married to Dom Marzano), Paula (married to Jack Pataki), Cindy (married to Dr. Rudy Buiser and Paul (married to Lisa Micco). Her 5 grandchildren, Dom Marzano, Johnny and Steven Lemmon, Johnny Pataki, and Rachell Zarella, and great grandchildren Nicholas, Sidney & Aria Lemmon, John Anthony Pataki III, and triplets, Izabella, Vivianna, & Enzo Marzano.
Ruth was a hard worker all her life. She and Paul owned a Dry Cleaners, and a Restaurant/Tavern. Ruth was also a store manager for Treasure Island in Westgate Plaza and she also worked in the bakery at Shop N Save. Working until the age of 86 and having very strong work ethics she never called off work. Ruth was known by family and friends for her great cooking and baking skills which she has passed onto her daughters. During the past 2 ½ years, Ruth helped with the folding and labeling of the monthly UPMC Jameson Care Center newsletters.
Honoring her wishes there are no calling hours and the service is private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.decarbofuneralhome.com.
