Obituary for Philip J. Cyphert

Philip J. Cyphert, 82 of New Castle, passed away October 2, 2018. Born April 4, 1936 in Volant, PA, he was the son of the late Philip and Clara Reinsel Cyphert.

On June 2, 1962, he married his beloved wife, the former Ann Werhnyak who survives at home.

Philip worked as a steel worker for B&W, in his earlier years and at Precision Feedscrew.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Philip was a member of the New Castle Area Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 315.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish, where he served as an usher.

Philip volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed bowling, playing in horse shoe leagues and his card club.

In addition to his wife, Philip is survived by three children, Matt and his wife Susan of Grove City, Melissa and her husband John Langer of Valencia, PA and Michelle Cyphert of New Castle, his brother, James Cyphert and his wife Betty, five grandchildren, Zachary, Erika, Adam, Christopher, and Sarah and several nieces and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rights at the funeral home at 10:45AM.

A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 11:00AM for St. Mary’s Church, Mary, Mother of Hope Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30AM. officiated by Rev. Father William Siple.

Interment will take place in Mt. Herman Cemetery.
