Obituary for John L. Kline

John L.  Kline
John L. Kline, 83, of South New Castle Boro, passed away the evening of August 25, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on March 28, 1935 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Lester W. and Anna D. Szeszko Kline. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 62 years, the former Dorothy Jermakowicz.

John worked as the Assistant Physical Director and aquatic instructor for YMCA where he had worked for more than 40 years. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. John had served as the Board President for LCARC, board member for Lawrence County Economic Development Board, Treasurer and Past President of New Castle Kiwanis, and Past Pennsylvania Lt. Governor of Kiwanis. He also was a member and Past President of the Lawrence County Borough Association and the former Mayor of South New Castle Boro for 53 years. An enthusiastic sports fan and #1 Pitt fan, John was a member of the Pitt Marching Band in his earlier years. He also was a longtime baseball umpire and basketball official as well as a coach for youth and VFW baseball, swim, and basketball teams.

In addition to his wife. John is survived by his children, John D. Kline and wife Wendy of Salem, OH and Jean Johnson and husband Charles of New Castle; sisters, Mary Ann Arcuri and Virginia Preisner and husband Thadd, both of New Castle; grandchildren, Amy Antol and husband Drew and Andrew Charles Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Parker Antol and Maddox Antol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Samuel Arcuri.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Blessing services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00am at the funeral home, officiated by Father Frank Almade. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery.
