Obituary for John Charles Pezzuolo

John Charles Pezzuolo, 91, of Hillsville, PA, passed away April 30, 2018. Born on April 5, 1927, John was one of ten children of the late Angelo Sr. and Anna Verlotte Pezzuolo. He was a lifelong resident of Hillsville, PA. He was married to the former Joan Benedict on October 1, 1955. They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. She survives.

John was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army Airforce with the 414th Air Service Group. He was stationed in France and Germany, receiving an honorable discharge on July 24, 1946. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. After the war, John returned to and graduated from Bessemer High School. He was employed by P&LE Railroad, Hillsville Elementary School, and retired from Rockwell International in 1991.

John was the first Eagle Scout in Mahoning Township. He was a member of the Bessemer American Legion for 70 years. He also was a member of the Johnson Club in Hillsville. He belonged to Christ the King Parish. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved Sunday afternoon spaghetti dinners with his family, followed by watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Yankees games.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his children, Larry (Darlene) Pezzuolo and Brenda (Tim) Glass; brother, Angelo (Donna) Pezzuolo; sisters, Jean Goodrich and Jane (Ron) Gatte; sisters-in-law, Teresa “Dolly” Pezzuolo and Marie Benedict; grandchildren, Gregory (Lindsay) Glass, Amy (Jeffrey) Donston, Rachal (Scott) Bright, Kelly Pezzuolo, and Timmy Glass; and great-granddaughters, Haylee, Aria, and Madelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anthony, James, Carmen, and Henry Pezzuolo; sister, Ida Cervone; and infant sister, Lottie.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites Friday at 9:30am at the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:45am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Anthony Church, officiated by Father James Downs.

Interment will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
