Obituary for Marian Fiacco Weiss

Marian Fiacco Weiss
Marian Fiacco Weiss, 94, passed away on Good Friday, March 30, at Cherry Hills Brookdale Senior Living Center in Sun City, CA.

She was born in New Castle, PA on December 5, 1923 to Pietro and Antoinette (Palumbo) Fiacco. After graduation from New Castle High School, she attended New Castle Business College. During employment with the VA, she met and married Robert A. Shaffer after WWII. She subsequently married James Weiss of New York on April 9, 1966. They were married for over 45 years until his passing in 2011. She also was preceded in death by her beloved only sister, Charlotte (Pat) Frank of New Castle.

Marian worked for several companies over the years as a secretary and was an excellent typist and organizer. Highlights include working as the secretary to the president of Hofstra University on Long Island, NY where she met Joe Namath while the NY Jets trained at Hofstra. She naturally talked to him about being from New Castle.

Marian loved to travel and was able to make several trips to Italy to visit her uncles and cousins. She loved telling her family about these trips. She also enjoyed playing cards and socializing and had many friends wherever she lived.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Robin (Wes) Frye of Murrieta, CA with whom she made her home; son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Betsy) Shaffer of New Castle; six grandchildren – Antoinette Joyce, Dustin, Kendell, Jackson (Chelsea) Frye, all from Murrieta, CA, Phoebe (Tim) Hohn, and Gregory (Veronica) Shaffer, all of New Castle; and seven great-grandchildren – Hope Watkins, Hunter Hohn, Landon Shaffer, Aidan Shaffer, Collin Shaffer, Elliot Frye, and Scarlett Frye. She is also survived by two beloved nieces, Linda (Bill) Carroll of Saginaw, MI and Jeanne (Brandon) Brady of Wellington, FL.

A private family committal service will be held at St. Lucy Cemetery later this month. As per her wishes, Marian’s remains will be laid to rest along with her parents. The family wishes to thank the many friends who have expressed love and care to us at Mom’s homegoing.
