Obituary for Zane "Big Daddy" Leeper

Zane (Big Daddy) Leeper, 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of December 23, 2017 at his residence. Born on September 8, 1934 in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Edgar (Dutch) and Virginia Pitzer Leeper. On June 22, 1980, he married his beloved wife, the former Marjorie F. Selig, and the two of them spent over 27 years together until she preceded him in death on February 9, 2008.

Raised in Edinburg, PA, Zane graduated from Union High School in 1952. He retired from the truck scales department of Sharon Steel after 40 years of working. Zane also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the former Edinburg Methodist Church. Zane was a diehard Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, and he also loved old western movies and country music. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Zane is survived by his daughter, Tina Barbato and husband Guy of New Castle; brother, Dave Leeper and wife Caroline of Edinburg, PA; sister, Linda Feil of West Middlesex, PA; special cousin, Ron Felger; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert E. Steffee II.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Reverend Matthew Bupp.

Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
