Obituary for William J. Querriera Jr.
William J. Querriera Jr., 68, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 15, 2017 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital. Born on May 1, 1948 in New Castle, he was the son of the late William J. Sr. and Regina Sylvester Querriera.
Bill retired as a custodian for the New Castle Area School District, and he previously worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. An avid sports fan, Bill enjoyed watching Pittsburgh sports teams, and he supported the New Castle High School Sports Programs and worked with the Athletic Department. He was a member of Duca Degli Abruzzi, and he enjoyed gardening and watching TV. Bill’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. Bill will be remembered for his great sense of humor and great love of children of all ages, even if they weren’t his own nieces and nephews. He was known to all kids as Uncle Billy. He also will be remembered for his love of animals, especially the wildlife he fed in the backyard. His cat, Willie, will miss him.
Bill is survived by his brothers, Joseph Querriera of New Castle, Ronald Querriera and wife Robin of New Castle, Richard Querriera and wife Barb of Cranberry Township, PA, and David Querriera of New Castle; sisters, Patricia Miller of New Castle and Rosemary Bonelli and husband Gary of New Castle; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Miller, Ryan Miller, Chris Querriera, Randy Querriera, Monica Querriera, Adrianna Sperdute, Gabriella Bonelli, Austin Querriera, and Maria Querriera; and great-nephews, Dominico Fanno and Lorenzo Sperdute.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00M at St. Vitus Church, officiated by Father William Siple.
Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
