Obituary for Carmen A. "Rabbit" Nocera

Carmen A. "Rabbit"  Nocera
Carmen A. “Rabbit” Nocera, 93, formerly of Mahoningtown, passed away the afternoon of March 21, 2015 from complications of a stroke caused by a fall.

Carmen was born on January 14, 1922 in West Pittsburg to the late Sam and Marie Fierro Nocera. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife the former Carmel Vitelli, whom he married on June 7, 1947.

Carmen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving his country during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of St. Vitus Church and the American Legion Post 343.

Carmen lived in New Castle his entire life and retired as a pipefitter from the B&O Railroad Steamfitters. He was also a self employed plumber. Carmen will be especially remembered for his athletic abilities. He was a superior baseball player during his youth, being offered a contract to play for the Oakland Oaks in the Pacific Coast League. Carmen played football for the New Castle Red Hurricanes, Great Lakes Naval Academy and the Wabash Bears. He was passionate about sports and loved a good poker game with his friends.

In addition to his wife, Carmen is survived by his two daughters, Betty Ahlswede and her husband Edward of Boardman, OH; Vita Avery of New Castle; his son, Carmen T. Nocera and his wife Lisa of Poland, OH; his sister, Margaret Paglia of Boardman, OH; and his brother, Dante Nocera of New Castle. “Papa Bunny “also leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Nocera.

Visitation is Monday, March 23, 2015, from 4PM to 6PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. New Castle, Pa. 16101 followed by a Blessing Service at 6PM at the funeral home.

Entombment will take place at Parkside Cemetery and Mausoleum.
