Obituary for Audrey Nixon-Foster

Audrey Nixon-Foster, 61, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of July 22, 2014 at St. John Specialty Care Center. Born on December 22, 1952 in New Castle, she is the daughter of Eddie Nixon of New Castle and the late Daisy Pryor Nixon. Surviving her at home is her beloved husband of over 39 years, Willie Foster, whom she married on December 7, 1974.

Audrey retired from teaching at the Youth Development Center of New Castle. She also previously taught at New Castle’s Rose Avenue School, Lawrence County Jail, and Cyber School. Audrey also was a librarian for the New Castle Library and Public Bookmobile. A graduate of Youngstown State University, she earned her Master’s degree in Education with a Reading Specialization. Audrey was a member of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ, the Quota Club, the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and mentor for Diamond Girls. She also was a member and treasurer of Faith, Hope, and Charity, a lifetime member of NAACP, a former Girl Scout, and belonged to numerous other organizations.

In addition to her father and husband, Audrey is survived by her children, Kenneth Foster and his companion Autumn Herbert of New Castle and Kendrah Foster of Pittsburgh, PA; brothers, Darrell Nixon of New Castle and Michael Nixon of Washington, PA; sisters, Annie Nixon, Leslie Hollins and husband Sam, Marlene Nixon, Michelle Krumm and husband Greg, all of New Castle, and Ernestine Morgan of Youngstown, OH; and grandchildren, Stormy Foster, DeVonte Foster, and Winter Grace. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Albert, and Lionel Nixon, and sisters, Joan Nixon, Elizabeth Prioleau, and Beverly Nixon Perkins.

Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St and Tuesday from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ 1119 South Jefferson Street.

Services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00pm at the church, officiated by Rev. Gary Clark.

Interment will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
