Obituary for Robert Navarra
Robert F. Navarra, 82, of Carbon-Micco Road, Edinburg, PA died the morning of Friday, February 29, 2008 in Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland, OH. He was born July 9, 1925 in Hillsville, PA and was the son of the late Frank & Lena Penna Navarra. He married the former Geraldine Retort on April 19, 1952. She survives.
Mr. Navarra was retired Administrator for New Castle School District after serving in capacities of Teacher, Athletic Coach, Guidance Counselor and Principal. He was a graduate of Bessemer High School. He earned a degree in Education from Youngstown State University and a Masters Degree in Education from Westminster College.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Campaign. He was awarded the Pacific Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was also a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Robert was a member of St. Lawrence Church of Christ the King Parish. He was a former School Board Member of Mohawk School District. In earlier years, he was active with Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and was a sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Bobbi Navarra of Rocky River, OH and his mother-in-law Carmelet Retort of Edinburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Arthur Navarra, Frank Navarra and twin brother Richard Navarra and a sister Jane Crispen.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., located at 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM at St. Lawrence Church of Christ the King Parish. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:15 PM for the church. Reverend Father James Downs of Christ the King Parish will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Monday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
