Obituary for Jerome Hassan

Jerome C. Hassan, 80, of 215 Orchard Park Drive passed away the morning of August 16, 2012 in Jameson Hospital.

He was born May 25, 1932 in New Castle to the late Alex and Mary Klam Hassan. He is survived by his wife, the former Faith Allay whom he married August 31, 1957.

Mr. Hassan retired from the New Castle Area School District where he taught English and French and later served as a Guidance Counselor. Jerome graduated from Grove City College with a bachelors degree in Education and received two masters degrees from Westminster College in Counseling and Administration. He continued his education by completing a fellowship at Bucknell University and later received a Para Legal Degree in which he put to use while working with the Law Offices of Luxenberg, Kelly, Garbett and George.

Jerome was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the El Fityet Allaween Syrian Association and the Islamic Society.

He loved golfing, literature, dancing, watching films and the arts. His greatest joy and what he loved above all was the time spent with family and friends. Jerome will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kevin Hassan and wife Debbie of Philadelphia; one daughter, Hope McGinnis and husband Tom of Pittsburgh; his mother-in-law, Frances Allay of New Castle; one brother, Donald Hassan of New York and five grandchildren, Alexander Hassan, Spencer Hassan, Regina Hassan, Aidan McGinnis and Ava McGinnis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jora Kelly and Rosetta Hamed; one brother, Edwin Muffa Hassan and his father-in-law, James Allay.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street.

A service will be held on Sunday 1:00 PM at the funeral home. A private burial has already taken place at Valley View Cemetery.
