Obituary for Voletta Mae Newkirk (Dickson)

Voletta Mae  Newkirk (Dickson)
Voletta Mae Newkirk, 87, of 201 North Ray Street passed away the afternoon of December 20, 2011 in Jameson Hospital.

She was born September 27, 1924 in Oakdale, PA and was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Nellie Mae Gaston Dickson. She married Benjamin Harrison Newkirk on February 2, 1942. He preceded her in death February 3, 1990.

Mrs. Newkirk was a homemaker. She was an active member of Croton United Methodist Church in staff and parish relations, having served as a trustee, Sunday school class president, the Now committee and she was awarded an Outstanding Layperson in Ministry by the Western Pennsylvania Conference. Voletta also served as a judge of election for thirty years. She enjoyed card club, gardening and fishing. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family.

Voletta is survived by two sons, Thomas Newkirk of New Castle and Harry James Newkirk of Las Vegas, NV; four daughters, Donnette Baehr of Riverside, CA, Lynda Little of New Castle, Gay Smith of Riverside, CA and Michelle Lum of New Wilmington; one sister, Mary Vanassa of New Castle; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Voletta Mae Newkirk and a brother, Robert Dickson.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
